About the Product

The Sea of Clouds Whales initially depicted a whale swimming through the sea of trees in the Japanese forest known as 青木ヶ原 (Aokigaharajukai). 青木ヶ原, often referred to as the Sea of Trees or Blue Tree Meadow, inspired Jun to illustrate trees in various shades of blue with a whale swimming above them.

However, the early attempts were unsatisfactory—the whale was obscured by the trees, and the trees themselves were difficult to distinguish. After numerous attempts, Jun decided to explore a different approach. She chose to depict the whale swimming through clouds instead.

Now, there are two types of cards available, featuring either blue or purple-colored clouds. Although the tree concept for the Sea of Trees was set aside, we hope to revisit and incorporate it into future card designs.
